It had to end(*) After a remarkable fourteen straight winners, Legendary Daily Bet Banker today picked out a loser, with Tour d’Argent finishing second in the 2.10 at Warwick, a single length behind Themilanhorse.
(*Later note – Or did it? – see comment below dated 5th Dec!)
Tellingly, Tour d’Argent’s BSP was 2.64, which was, by some distance, longer than any of the fourteen winners that had preceded it. A win today would have put Legendary Daily Banker back into profit for the first time in months. Instead, the loss, at a stake of £28, sends the system balance tumbling back down to £449.64.
As Fate would have it, the jockey who let us down was A. P. McCoy. Regular readers will know that I am destined always to lose to this man. When I lay his mounts, they win; and when I back them, they lose. It’s quite uncanny, and of course it had to be he who spoiled the party once again.

So near, and yet so very far. :-(

Lucy,
Goodfellow tipped black noddy in this race??
Patrick,
Interesting!
I was unable to check the newspaper yesterday, but understood from Peter2 on MMR (a usually ultra-reliable source) that Tour d’Argent was the tip… in which case, the selection stands….
Are you able to provide more clarification? have you seen Saturday’s paper??
many thanks!

OK I think the mystery is solved!
I’m sure Patrick won’t mind me quoting from his email to me this afternoon in which he explained that “I looked at the newspaper on-Line Sat which also gave Sundays Tips”….
In contrast, ‘Peter2′ on the excellent moremoneyreview.com website confirms that, “On Sundays only when the RP does not show DM tips I check if any possible selections were tipped by Goodfellow in the Saturday printed copy of the DM. If they are then have regarded as qualifier and I notify on thread so RP version users have consistent selection basis. Have never used on line version of DM at any point.”
Thus we appear to have a difference between the printed and electronic copies of the newspaper.
This therefore becomes something of an academic matter, as it is a matter of personal choice as to which data source is used. My view however on this occasion is that the paper was published yesterday, and probably therefore can be taken as in a sense ‘definitive’: certainly I placed a system bet based upon it, and it would feel like “cheating” to delete the bet now simply because we didn’t get the result we wanted.
Thus I am ruling, for the purposes of my trial, that the bet still stands.
Perhaps more tellingly, this incident highlights a weakness in the system rules, for it is unclear which source the punter is supposed to use!

Mystery really solved this time – read on!
Get this – I have now in my possession a copy of Saturday’s newspaper showing Goodfellow’s tips for Sunday.
So I can confirm categorically that Tour d’Argent was not selected by the newspaper tipster. Instead, the published tip was indeed Black Noddy.
So – I think I owe Patrick a huge apology! And thanks for pointing out my error!
What this does mean is that Sunday’s selection was wrong, and that there was no bet. Thus the system balance reverts to £477.64, and our winning sequence of 14 straight winners continues!
There was no selection on Monday, and there doesn’t appear to be one on Tuesday either. I can’t say I mind after all the excitement and confusion of Sunday!

No problem Lucy – that’s what feed back is for and AP has got a reprieve as well
) lol
Thanks Patrick – though it will take a lot more than that before I forgive AP all the money he has lost me down the years!

No selection on Wednesday…. so our 14 race run remains intact

And after a quiet week, we finally had a selection today (Thurs), with Alasi delivering yet another short-priced winner @ a BSP of 1.38 in the 1pm race @ Huntingdon.
The almost dizzying £28 stake produced a win of £10.11 after commission (double figures!!), bringing the balance to £487.75 – i.e. only £12.25 short of where we started back in the summer!
So that’s 15 winners on the bounce. Whatever you think of this system, it certainly is one of a kind.

We have winner number 16 in our sequence!
The Legendary Banker system today picked out Sprinter Sacre in the 12.25 @ Doncaster, which won at a BSP of 1.26.
The staking level has progressed to £29, meaning we won £7.16 after commission.
The balance has now risen to £494.91, which almost certainly means that winner number 17, if it happens to come along, will take us through the £500 mark and into actual profit.
However, with the next stake now set at £30, there’s a pretty fair chance of a quick fall back down below £500 again….
Still, it has been an extraordinary run.

Well this time our run really is over
.
Yes, cue the sombre music… Hinterland finished second in the 12.10 @ Cheltenham this afternoon, at fairly typical LDBS odds (BSP = 1.27). However, untypically by recent standards, our ultra-short favourite chronically under-performed, finishing an enormous seven lengths behind Baby Mix.
This puts a huge hole in the bank balance, as the staking level had risen to £30. So much for all our progress! We now tumble back down to a balance of £464.91. Bizarrely, this is, to the penny, the balance that we would have achieved had we bet with level £10 stakes throughout.
I will post the updated results spreadsheet tomorrow. For now though, time to drown my sorrows… I’ve been moaning about this system for months, but had recently actually started to believe! However, like most conversions, it has all ended in disappointment….
